Surprise Engagement
For two or three years in the late 1990s and 2000, my husband commuted to work in the Long Beach California area and flew back and from almost every week from Salt Lake City to the LAX airport. It became a regular part of our week to drive him to the airport on Sunday evening and pick him up on Thursday evenings. Several times Donny Osmond was on the return flight and was always kind and gracious. Occasionally I would go with my husband for his work week and stay in his little apartment during the days and then we would go out together in the evenings. I remember one flight home in particular in September of 1998. On our flight, a stewardess announced that a young man on the plane was on his way to propose to his girlfriend in the Salt Lake Airport. Unsuspecting, she would be there waiting for him, as well as her family. He had forewarned the family and they were prepared to videotape the big event. His plan was to be the last one off the plane and he enlisted the help of almost every passenger there by handing each one a red rose or two to carry off the plane with them and present to a very surprised and amazed young woman standing there quite bewildered! Two hundred roses later, he came off the plane and made his proposal. She seemed very happy to see him and was delighted to accept his invitation! – Lynette L. |
