The Salt Lake City Department of Airports (SLCDA) held an Unveiling Ceremony today that revealed awe-inspiring, large-scale art installations for the first phase of The New SLC Airport, which opens in 18 days on Sept. 15, 2020.

Unveiling of The New SLC Planned
The Salt Lake City Department of Airports is planning an Unveiling Ceremony to reveal The New SLC large-scale art installations and progress of the new airport 20 days prior to the September 15, 2020, opening. In addition to comments from the following officials, the program will include a blessing/land acknowledgement, a drape drop to reveal The Canyon art installation, placement of items in a time capsule, followed by tours of the facility.

Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) held an open house on Tuesday, August 11, 2020, to showcase a new Central Receiving and Distribution Center (CRDC) operated by Bradford Airport Logistics, which begins operating on August 17, 2020.

Media Advisory Airport Master Plan Public Meeting 2020
Salt Lake City is securing its position as a global aviation hub by building a brand-new airport that will serve the region for decades to come. The New SLC Redevelopment Program was envisioned more than 20 years ago in the airport’s current Master Plan to address projected passenger growth.
The Salt Lake City Department of Airports (SLCDA) is updating its Master Plan to determine the future facility needs of the airport and to evaluate solutions for implementation. The purpose for updating the Master Plan is to chart a strategic course for the airport’s next 20 years and create a blueprint for long-term development. SLCDA is seeking public input on the Master Plan and invites all interested parties to participate.

SLC Airport Seeks Artists to Design Tunnel Murals
The Salt Lake City Department of Airports has an opportunity for artists to design murals for the Mid-Concourse Tunnel, which is part of The New SLC Redevelopment Program.
When The New SLC Airport opens the north concourse on October 27, 2020—six weeks after the south concourse opens—a tunnel will transport passengers between Concourse A and Concourse B. The tunnel will be used by passengers for approximately three years while the permanent tunnel is built as part of second phase of construction.

SLC Airport Planning for Busy Holiday Season
Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) will be bustling in the coming week as passengers board flights for holiday travel. Two of the busiest days are expected to be Saturday, Dec. 21 and Thursday, Dec. 26, 2019.
To help passengers navigate the airport and plan their travel during this busy time, SLC has launched two new phone apps. Live Shuttle Tracker is a phone app that shows the location of the airport’s economy parking lot shuttles in real time. In addition, a new SLC Airport phone app provides users with airport news, flight schedules and security screening wait times.

SLC Santa Express Departs on Saturday
Patients from Primary Children’s and Shriners Hospitals for Children – Salt Lake City—will be treated to a unique opportunity on Saturday when they board a Boeing 737 and depart to their final destination—Santa’s Winter Wonderland. The plane will taxi to the Delta hangar, which will be transformed into a magical place where the children can enjoy crafts, have their photo taken by a jet engine and visit with Santa—who will have a special gift selected just for them. Santa’s elves, sports team mascots and cheerleaders will be on hand to join in on the festivities.

Gary Sinise Foundation and American Airlines Host Send-Off Celebration for Children of Fallen Heroes Through Snowball Express at Salt Lake City International Airport
The holidays can be especially challenging for grieving families of fallen military heroes. On Dec. 7, 2019, the Gary Sinise Foundation Snowball Express (GSF SBE) service will host a five-day experience for more than 1,700 family members of the fallen, focusing on their children and the surviving parent or guardian. This therapeutic retreat will offer fun and inspiring programs, encouraging critical peer-to-peer support for these families.

SLC International Adds New Service to Assist Blind and Low-Vision Passengers Navigate the Airport
Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) has added a new service known as Aira—Artificial Intelligence Remote Assistant—to assist blind and low-vision passengers better navigate the airport. Aira connects low-vision passengers to real, highly-trained people instantly who interpret their surroundings through their cell phone’s camera or special glasses that have an embedded video camera paired with a smartphone.
