Demolition of Former Delta Tower Marks Milestone in Airport Construction Program
Demolition of the former airport facilities continues to move forward on schedule to make way for building Phase II of The New SLC Redevelopment Program. A major milestone in the demolition will occur on Feb. 15 when what is known as the “Delta Tower” comes down.

Media Availability for XpressCheck COVID Testing Site Launch
XpresCheck will be opening a COVID-19 testing site at SLC International Airport on Wednesday, January 20 at 9 a.m. The location will be offering rapid molecular COVID tests and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests.
The Salt Lake City International Airport location will be open Thursday through Monday, 9 a.m. through 5 p.m. in Concourse A, post-security, for ticketed passengers and employees.

SLC International Commemorates 100-year Anniversary
The year was 1920 and World War I had just ended, women had gained the right to vote and a jazz musician named Louis Armstrong was becoming a household name. Meanwhile, on a cold, windswept plain near the Great Salt Lake, a group of visionaries gathered to break ground on Salt Lake City’s first permanent airplane landing field that came to be known as Woodward Field.

SLC Airport Commemorates First 100 Years
The Salt Lake City Department of Airports will commemorate its 100-year anniversary with a small gathering in the brand new airport. The release of an airport history book is planned along with the screening of a documentary about the building of The New SLC.

Media Tour of Airport Demolition
With the first phase of The New SLC now open, crews have started dismantling and demolishing the former airport facilities in preparation for the build out of Phase II. Tuesday’s tour will provide an opportunity for media to learn more about how the airport is moving forward with the demolition and to get video and take photos.

Concourse B Makes its Debut
Shortly after midnight the second act opened at The New SLC with the debut of Concourse B. As of midnight, aircraft were no longer loading and unloading passengers in the former airport concourses C, F and G. All airlines serving SLC are now operating out of entirely new facilities.

Concourse B Set to Open October 27
Six weeks after opening the bulk of the first phase of The New SLC, the Salt Lake City Department of Airports is getting ready to open part two of the first phase—Concourse B. The morning of Tuesday, October 27, a Grand Opening Celebration for Concourse B is planned at Gate B17.

The Salt Lake City Department of Airports Opens the First Phase of The New SLC
Today at 4:00 a.m., the Salt Lake City Department of Airports (SLCDA) turned the key and opened the first phase of The New SLC Airport. As the lights dimmed on the existing airport, the lights brightened on a new parking garage, gateway center, central terminal and Concourse A-west. Delta Air Lines will occupy the 25 gates in Concourse A-west, including six international gates. In six weeks—on Oct. 27—Concourse B-west will open with 20 gates for Alaska, American, Frontier, JetBlue, Southwest and United airlines.

The New SLC Opening Day Events
The first phase of The New SLC Airport will open to passengers with activities planned to celebrate the first departing and arriving flights. The New SLC is the first new hub airport built in the 21st Century. At 4 a.m. on Sept. 15, the Salt Lake City Department of Airports will open a new parking garage, terminal and the west portion of Concourse A.
