Thanksgiving weekend marks the beginning of the holiday travel season, and Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) officials are prepared to welcome thousands of passengers this week. Travelers to Salt Lake City International Airport are now welcomed by a new entry feature titled “The Peaks,” which is a monumental sculpture imagined by Artist Gordon Huether then fabricated and installed by Huether’s team. Salt Lake City Department of Airports (SLCDA) will be dedicating a new entry feature titled “The Peaks,” which is a monumental sculpture imagined, fabricated and installed by Artist Gordon Huether. The Peaks art installation was inspired by the Wasatch Mountains and pays tribute to Utah’s five Native American tribes and the five elements of the natural world. The completion of Phase 2 of The New SLC Redevelopment Program was marked by the 6:44 a.m. departure of flight #349 to Atlanta. During an early-morning ceremony, a 45’ wide by 14’ tall curtain opened to reveal the remaining 13 gates and a dozen new shops and restaurants on Concourse A-east. The New SLC Phase-4 is now under construction and the Salt Lake City Department of Airports (SLCDA) is preparing to select concessions for the 16-gate expansion of Concourse B-east. Nov 20 2023
