SLC: The Premier Cargo Gateway to the West
Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) is building the next frontier in air cargo logistics and is strategically positioned for growth. As the gateway to one of the fastest-growing regions in the United States, SLC connects global supply chains to dynamic markets across the west and beyond.
SLC’s vision is to create a premier, global cargo hub to support resilient and efficient cargo operations. Whether a shipper, freight forwarder, integrator, e-commerce player or airline, SLC offers the infrastructure and intermodal connectivity to facilitate cargo development.
With state-of-the-art facilities, 24/7 operations and direct access to major highways and rail networks, SLC is powering the future of air cargo in the West.
Utah’s economy leads the nation, with the highest average household income, lowest poverty rate, and the fastest relative growth in manufacturing.
SLC is working in close collaboration with other organizations, leveraging the strengths of each to create new cargo opportunities for our region.
SLC’s geographic position is strategically positioned as a western gateway, with seamless intermodal access to rail and interstates. SLC benefits from less congestion both at the airport and on the road, enabling quick and efficient cargo flow.

Airfield Improvements: Building for Future Capacity
Additional improvements are planned as part of SLC’s Airport Master Plan
- Extending runway 16L-34R to the north by 2,000 plus feet.
- Building new taxiways to improve aircraft flow between the airfield’s east and west sides, for enhanced air cargo operations.
- Planning a south end-around taxiway to improve safety and efficiency and improve taxi times, reduce congestion and avoid active runway crossings.
- Building an additional de-ice pad to the north of Runway 16R-34L for quicker de-icing operations and reduced taxi times for south departures.

Land Development: The Room to Build & Grow
SLC has land available to grow, providing safe, efficient and secure cargo operations.

New Modern Air Cargo Campus: Under Development
A multi-tenant warehouse is under development at SLC in partnership with Aviation Facilities Co. (AFCO), with direct access to an airside cargo ramp. This will bring up to 153,000 sf. of modern space designed to support a wide range of cargo operations including cold chain solutions.
