Taxiway Uniform and Victor Projects

The Salt Lake City International Airport (SLCIA) is currently experiencing passenger numbers exceeding 28 million annually and continues to grow prompting upgrades to the airfield for safety and efficiency.

To support 94 total gates between two concourses, the 2022 SLCIA Masterplan identified the need for two additional taxiways—Uniform and Victor—to connect the east and west portions of the airfield, as well as, between the north cargo support area and existing concourses. A taxiway is a path for aircraft that connect between the runway, terminal and other airfield facilities.

The construction of Taxiways U and V will provide additional access points for aircraft and will increase airfield efficiency and safety.

Project Features

  • Aircraft rated bridge structures
  • Airfield lighting
  • Demolition of existing infrastructure (asphalt and concrete)
  • Design of taxiway pavement
  • Drainage
  • Realignment of 4000W and addition of a roundabout
  • Security
  • Service roads
  • Signage
  • Utility relocation

Timeline

Construction on Taxiway V will start in the summer of 2025 and is expected to be completed in 2027.

Changes for passengers and operations

  • This project will not impact passengers; however, construction may be visible to passengers on their arriving or departing flights.
  • Traffic changes are expected with the realignment of 4000 West and will include the addition of a roundabout.

Envision

Taxiway U and V will be the first Envision project at SLC. Envision is a sustainability framework that provides guidance on how to improve the planning, design, construction and operation of a project. By using Envision, projects have more sustainable outcomes such as increased community and stakeholder engagement, demolished materials reuse/recycled on site, resource consumption reductions, public space improvements and resilient design elements.

The project location with respect to the site vicinity is shown on Figure 1, and a conceptual drawing showing the proposed taxiways design is presented on Figure 2.
